LIGHTHOUSES
In the geographical area of the Port of Motril there are three important lighthouses to help navigation:
CASTELL DE FERRO LIGHTHOUSE
The lighthouse was inaugurated in 1992, built on a Moorish watchtower renovated in the 18th century and called Torre de la Instancia (Instance Tower). The conical masonry tower with brick rows was restored in 1990 to become the lighthouse, by placing a lamp with a small metal balcony, two parallel walls opposite and an access footbridge halfway up. It is located on the hill that dominates the Punta del Melonar and, with 237 m of focal high, is the second tallest lighthouse in the Peninsula and the Mediterranean Sea.

LA HERRADURA LIGHTHOUSE
This lighthouse was inaugurated in 1992, built on the watchtower of the Punta de la Mona or Concepción. Before its remodelling in the 18th century, it was a Moorish chamber known as Rábita or Xarfa. The conical tower is made of limestone masonry and lime mortar, with brick rows. During the restoration, which took place in 1990, it was rebuilt, and a lamp with a small metal balcony and an external staircase to access at 7.5 m were added. Its location in Punta de la Mona and its focal height of 140 m turn it into a good balcony over the Mediterranean, so a viewpoint was built at its base.

CABO SACRATIF LIGHTHOUSE
Sacratif lighthouse was built on the Cape of the same name, on the Cerro del Chucho. It was inaugurated on December 31, 1863 with a 2nd order system. The 19 m high tower is conical, currently white with ochre cornices, attached to the rectangular building. The lighthouse had a Degrand lamp fuelled by olive oil, with Lepaute lamp and optic. In 1916 a kerosene vapour lamp was placed. In 1956 a new Pintch optic and aeromaritime lamp was placed and it was electrified with 1,500 w lamps, becoming the only aero-lighthouse in the provinces of Granada and Almeria. It's the most important lighthouse of the coast of Granada and from which all other signals in the province are managed.
